This Gluten Free Blackberry Apple Crumble is soon to become your favourite crumble! It’s such a great dish to get the kids involved in making, I love seeing little hands crumbing the pastry together.

It’s also not just about the end product but the process itself; the foraging, being in nature, enjoying being together with family, friends or furry friends. I’ve been reading a lot about meditation recently, but more than just sitting meditating, what I’m learning is to appreciate and be present in the moment, giving the ever racing, thinking mind a rest. Well, foraging blackberries couldn’t be a better exercise to totally bring you into the present moment. There’s no time to be distracted by thoughts when confronted with nettles, thorns and the possibility of falling face first into brambles should you reach out just a little too far…

Don’t you just love it when delicious foods have incredible health benefits? This happens to be true of Blackberries! Super high in antioxidants making them an excellent anti inflammatory food, providing support for eye, heart and immune health and great for skin health. High in vitamin C for a healthy immune system and  rich in Manganese which supports brain function.  Other vitamins provided by blackberries include vitamin A, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6, folate, vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) and vitamin K (phylloquinone). Minerals also include calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and zinc. Blackberries are also provide essential dietary fibre benefiting our digestive health, helping remove toxins.

Crumble has to be one of my favourite deserts ever. So when I went gluten free around 4 years ago I struggled with having to give this one up. I’ve since experimented with many gluten free crumble toppings, none of which really replaced the real deal. After much trial and error I finally perfected the gluten free crumble topping!!! Am so excited to share this with you! It’s high in fibre, refined sugar free, and can be dairy free / vegan if needed.
